Wild Animals and Nature Photos

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

Today’s featured art gallery is Natural by Joshua Henson.

The wild animals and scenery are just beautiful in these nature photos. I’m always amazed when seeing great photos of wild animals. I think of all the time it takes to capture those 1 in a million shots. Critters just don’t cooperate all that well for taking photos, a person has to have a bit of luck in catching a great pose. And… These photographs capture some great poses. I especially like the harbor seal, what a great shot!

Lovely Panoramic Views

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

Today’s featured art gallery is A Panoramic View by Jennifer Hakkarainen.

These lovely panoramas with water and trees capture beautiful scenes. I’m partial to scenes with rivers, ponds, and trees. The scenic photos nicely capture the beauty of water and make me feel like I’m there looking at the scene.

I was very fortunate to have spent my youth in Rockport Massachusetts. Living in Rockport fostered in me a love for the natural landscape and a deep appreciation of my cultural roots – a subject that has remained a focus of my photographic work throughout my life.

The images in this gallery of Cape Ann. Rockport, Gloucester, Essex, and all of the wonderful seaside communities are represented here. They have many uses! Reminders of a seaside vacation, presents for lovers of the ocean landscapes, or decoration of a hotel or office. Rockport and its neighboring communities are timeless.

I enjoy water reflections, so I couldn't miss the opportunity to take this one home. This is a river in a rural area of western MA. For those of you who are not familiar with western MA, we have a lot of beauty in our forests, parks and rivers here. This particular day the sun was especially helpful, and I was ready to capture it.

The Beauty of Nature

Friday, March 28th, 2008

Today’s featured art gallery is Scenic_Nature by Lynda Lehmann.

Beautiful skies and trees are captured in great photos of Nature at it’s finest. Green leaves, blue skies, and reflections off the waters create lovely scenes which would make nice framed prints.

Imagekind Gallery Nature

Inspiring views of nature in all its glory. Form and color are the basis of design in nature, but it's light that makes it all happen. Here are photos of nature close and far, both larger scenes and closeups. Our Earth offers many surprises, and it's a joy to find them with my camera. The world seems bright and new with each discovery of nature's mystery and beauty.

Spray and Stone

c6bbb2dd-eef8-4d05-be76-5661c747809d

Taken at Diana*s Baths in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. This shot is one of contrasts: between light and shadow; the delicateness of the spray and solidity of the stone; between what is ephemeral (the water*s flow) and what is enduring (the mass and steadfastness of the boulders.) It is also a study in textures and the more subtle colors of nature*s beautiful palette. Image and text c Lynda Lehmann.

DRIFTS AND SHADOWS

I love the patterns the shadows of the trees makes, falling blue-gray across the unspoiled snow of the silent forest. Image c Lynda Lehmann.

Enchanted Forest

7906084a-4f05-4733-814e-091edc3002d8

Of course, this is not a forest at all. It is, rather, a hardy ornamental kale struggling to embrace the sunshine and endure through cold winter days. When I saw this kale bursting with life, exploding its violet tones into the afternoon light, I had to look at it close up. That's when I saw magic in it: a bizarre yet beautiful forest of exotic foliage in alluring tones of green, auburn and violet.

Take a close look at the enlarged image!

Night Rhythms

A sensous shot of water plants and grasses at dusk, on a lake in Maine. I like the rhythms of the ripples and grasses, and the shadows of the leaves. The peace and mystery of twilight are so soothing. Oftentimes, you can hear only a soft breeze and the plaintive cry of loons, while swallows take to the air and swoop in great arcs, in search of a dragonfly dinner. Image c Lynda Lehmann.

The seasons change, and we change. All things cycle, yet remain the same. An endless progression of birth, transformation, death, and rebirth, is revealed in the surrender of the warm and fertile months, to winter's formidable grasp. Pain may mark our rites of passage as often as joy, but renewal waits on each day's horizon. Image and text c Lynda Lehmann.

The Gathering Storm

This photo was taken in the fields outside North Conway, New Hampshire, on a steamy, late summer afternoon, on a short hike with my husband and daughter. The weather was unsettled, with another thunderstorm threatening, so we were hesitant to go too far from the car. The view of the sun's rays spilling from the ominous clouds was spectacular, and you could feel an explosive energy building in the air. Image c Lynda Lehmann.

Nature welcomes them into this beautiful and pristine pool among the boulders. Image c Lynda Lehmann.

Encrusted

This image was shot at close range. Notice the gorgeous texture of this mineral encrusted boulder. The North Shore of Long Island is full of huge rocks, left by receding ice at the end of the Ice Age. Texture is the most ubiquitous kind of "form" and design in the universe. Image c Lynda Lehmann.

From the Wetlands to the Sound

f97686d2-23f9-4197-b3ab-7df1d8b13157

Looking from the wetlands out to the open water of the Sound, I was taken by the weathered look and textural features of what was apparently once a dock. In this saltwater marsh, the holes where crabs had dug into the sand were everywhere. In here, sheltered from the breeze over the open water, we heard bountiful birdsong and saw a great variety of scrubby trees, including some varieties of pine I can't name, as well as flowering bushes. A bevy of seagulls called raucously over our heads as they made their way down the channel, following the last surge of receding tidal flow. Image c Lynda Lehmann.

The Time of Her Life

A pristine day, abundant with sunshine and fresh air. Both the sky and water were the most gorgeous, sparkling hues of blue and the wind was calm. Everything felt right: a truly mellow and harmonious afternoon.

This little girl romping through the water along the edge of Long Island Sound is feeling not only the coolness and refreshment of the water splashing her feet, but also the caress of the breeze and the warmth of a giving sun. She is truly discovering life, opening her senses to the wonders of the world around her. Image c Lynda Lehmann.

The forest shows us the conjoined poles of the Grand Paradox, the dynamic mix and sensuous interplay of masculine and feminine principles, the unknowable yin and yang. From the steady, sure, unfading boulders anchoring the multitude of energies, to the glimmering rivulets vibrating between fertile shores; from the pristine, continuous blue of the sky-dome to the groping aggregates of rough moss and lichen fields; to the fleeting but certain presence of pungent breeze.... Something stirs in my soul, and it is larger than joy. Image and text c Lynda Lehmann.

Emerald Forest, After the Rain

47ff0287-31a8-47b0-a24f-9854946299ad

After a late spring rain, the freshened arbor bursts with life-force. Burgeoning plant-forms grope their way into another season of being, under the whispering canopy. The rhythm of rushing water underscores the call of all things wild and free, into fresh growth, vigor, and sparkling green. Resilient, life unfolds. The forest shows us the conjoined poles of the Grand Paradox, the dynamic mix and sensuous interplay of masculine and feminine principles, the unknowable yin and yang. From the steady, sure, unfading boulders anchoring the multitude of energies, to the glimmering rivulets vibrating inside fecund shores; from the pristine, continuous blue of the sky-dome to the groping aggregates of rough moss and lichen fields; to the fleeting but certain presence of pungent breeze.... Something stirs in my soul, and it is larger than joy. Image and text c 2008 Lynda Lehmann.

Peace settles over the lake at dusk, like a balm to the soul. Except for the occasional call of a loon from far away, there is only a deep and penetrating silence. The world settles into shadow while rich swaths of color still play in the western sky. Image and text c Lynda Lehmann.

Boulders and Sky

What I like about this shot is the sense of scale the viewer gets from the tiny figures in the background, while the mass of the boulders anchors the panorama and gives a sure sense of foreground. Long Island has some beautiful scenic beaches. Image c Lynda Lehmann.
