The Beauty of Nature
Friday, March 28th, 2008Today’s featured art gallery is Scenic_Nature by Lynda Lehmann.
Beautiful skies and trees are captured in great photos of Nature at it’s finest. Green leaves, blue skies, and reflections off the waters create lovely scenes which would make nice framed prints.

This gallery features views of nature in all its glory. Form and color are the basis of design in nature, but it's light that makes it all happen. Here are photos of florals and botanicals both close and far. The world seems bright and new, with each discovery of nature's mystery and beauty.
A single Peony, bright pink and shot in high contrast, unfurls its beautiful petals.
Closeup of a head of ornamental kale, still lush, sensuous, and colorful in the late autumn.
A soft purple tulip poised in soft light.
A lush, buttery golden rose, close up. Delicate, graceful, and alluring. "Yellow" is for hope. Fifty percent of net sales of this image will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, to help make cancer history.

Not only are these leaves beautiful in shape, but the linear patterns are lively and attractive.

Brilliant golden Irises on a late spring afternoon, are a welcome sight after a bleak winter.
Slender Columbines at their peak, remind me of fairy parachutes. Their delicate beauty astounds me.
Elegant and graceful orchids poised in space, offer for me, a sense of something exotic and even primordial. To me they are the most mysterious of flowers.
To me, orchids are the most exotic, graceful and beautiful of flowers.
A golden rose still lush and vibrant in the glow of a late November day.
To me, orchids are the most exotic and beautiful of flowers. They are elegant and graceful as they gently arc and define the space around them.

Nature is always full of surprises. Looking closely at this patch of Daisies, it seemed strange enough to find a huge bee perched so close to a Ladybug. But it was a green Ladybug, of all things! Or maybe she is another kind of beetle that I'm unable to identify.
Color, form, elegance, symmetry--all in a pink flower. Image c Lynda Lehmann.
Just like the complementary colors (magenta and green) in the quietly unfolding leaves of this Coleus, the human soul is capable of great harmony. In a meditative state of mind, peace and affirmation may become as present as the unassuming and quiet glory of this plant. Image c Lynda Lehmann.
Delicate ground cover with violet flowers and lush green leaves.
A graceful and magnificent lily, so poised on the air, as if to grasp the twilight. Image c Lynda Lehmann.

To me, these lilies look too beautiful to be real! But they are real: delicate, graceful, of wonderful, lush color, and touched with raindrops after a summer shower. Image c Lynda Lehmann.
A wide-open white tulip has a cinnamon or amber-colored center, and seems to offer up the riches of its pollen. Image c Lynda Lehmann.
This image bring to mind the wonderful organization of nature, and the idea of fractals, more specifically: the idea of the forms of the parts refecting the form of the whole, and vice versa. It's amazing how each cell of a plant or animal "knows" how to differentiate itself, knows what it "wants to be," in a sense. And it's a visual treat, as well! Image and text c Lynda Lehmann.
A trio of pale magenta orchids basking in the fading light of a waning winter afternoon. Image c 2008 Lynda Lehmann.
A lively spring floral in sizzling colors, done by manipulation of an original photo in Photoshop. Image c Lynda Lehmann.
There is great mystery in this leafy veil, and I'm reminded of primordial forces behind the unfolding of each leaf, and in the sunlight itself. Image and text c Lynda Lehmann.
A lush and rich pink Peony, at its peak of color and gently unfolding beauty. To me, each petal is a marvel of graceful gesture. Image c Lynda Lehmann.
A pink Camellia basks in the subdued and filtered mid-winter light of a greenhouse. This one is blooming earlier than many of its still-dormant counterparts. Within the contours of its delicate petals is a delineation of order, peace, and unassuming beauty. The slight blemishes at one or two of its petal tips, do not mar its overall magnificence. Perhaps in seeing this we can remind ourselves that to find the beauty within us all, is not to imply that we must fulfill an ideal of perfection. Maybe we, like the flower, are beautiful and complete, each of us, in spite of our imperfections. Image and text c 2008 Lynda Lehmann.
A cluster of buttery yellow Daffodils, basking in the sun. Image c Lynda Lehmann.

In this rose which I photographed yesterday, I saw some of the prettiest pinks, the most delicate petals, and the most graceful unfolding of a weightless and heavenly blossom, that I have ever seen. Image c Lynda Lehmann. Fifty percent of net sales of this image will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, to help make cancer history.

A lush and delicate white rose in afternoon sun, burnished with light and rain droplets. Image c Lynda Lehmann.
The bloom is off the rose, as they say, for the season. But we have our paintings and photos to keep them with us through the winter! I caught this rose on a recent walk, and felt it looked best close up, though I did not shoot it as a macro. I love the rhythm and gestural counterpoint of the petals. Image c Lynda Lehmann.

I see flowers as a kind of organic architecture. Proportions, lighting, directionality, the interrelation of elements--all are important aspects of a powerful visual presence, in the same way in which magnificent architecture or a gorgeous landscape inspires us. Please visit www.lyndalehmann.com if you would like to see more of my photography and my abstract expressionist paintings.
Serendipity was finding this majestic tulip in my garden, upon returning from a walk. I ran to get my camera and caught it just a few minutes before shade enveloped it, swallowing all the gorgeous highlights. Only a day later, this beautiful bloom was past its glory. Image c Lynda Lehmann.

A flower that is not yet spent, as so many of them already are at the end of the summer season. Image c Lynda Lehmann.
Of course, this is not a forest at all. It is, rather, a hardy ornamental kale struggling to embrace the sunshine and endure through cold winter days. When I saw this kale bursting with life, exploding its violet tones into the afternoon light, I had to look at it close up. That's when I saw magic in it: a bizarre yet beautiful forest of exotic foliage in alluring tones of green, auburn and violet. Take a close look at the enlarged image!
