Monday, March 10th, 2008Today’s featured art gallery is Watercolors by Lora Garcelon.
This gallery is filled with wonderful watercolor artwork showing great scenes from life. The people, animals, and flowers are captured so well that I can’t help but think of times I’ve seen similar scenes in real life. The art brings up many wonderful memories.

This lady has been a friend of our family since I was a little girl. I loved her hat, so I asked her to let me paint her.
Watercolor on 1/2 sheet Fabriano paper. I liked this lady's pose and the light on her hair, which is what inspired me to paint her.
I loved this girl's expressive features, which really made it fun to paint her portrait.
This watercolor is painted on a 3/4 sheet Fabriano paper. The model was dancing at a local ballet school.
This painting was inspired by a photo my sister-in-law took of workers rebuilding a house in Haiti.
My daughter loves to dance with her shadow. I had fun playing with the shadow in this painting, too. Painted on 1/2 sheet Arches paper.
Watercolor on 1/2 sheet 140 lb Fabriano paper.
Watercolor, 11x14, on Fabriano soft-press paper. This was my son's first time to the ocean. It was too cold to swim but he didn't seem to mind.
This painting was inspired by a photograph of my father drinking a glass of water. I was fascinated by the transparent green from his hat visor bouncing off his face and bringing his features to life. The frostiness of the glass was fun to paint, too!
This painting is of a friendly pig from a farm in northern Michigan. I enjoy trying to capture the facial expressions of animals and have fun playing with color.
This painting was inspired by some vacation photos I took at Twin Lights State Park in Maine. I loved the colors of the flowers lining the driveway and tried to express that in this watercolor.
My neighbor had these sunflowers planted by his driveway last summer. I love the memories of summer that these flowers bring back. Original sold Original (11x14 inches) for sale.
This watercolor painting was inspired from a photograph I took during a vacation to the ocean several years ago. My daughter had finished her lunch then decided to eat mine, too. She only took a few bites, covered my sandwich with so much sand it was inedible, then toddled off to play.

Watercolor painting of two old friends catching up on the latest news.
Watercolor painting of 2 elderly ladies walking by a church. The reference photos were taken in Barcelona.
Watercolor painting of a woman smoking a cigarette. This is not intended to be a commentary for or against smoking. This just happened to be what the subject liked to do and was very much a part of her identity, so I decided to paint her this way.
